According to the data presented in the report of the world health organization (who),Russia was the leader among European countries in terms of HIV infection among Russians recorded the largest number of new HIV infections. Our compatriots have up to 65% of new HIV infections of all identified cases in European countries.
The who state that in Russia last year it was revealed 104 thousand new diagnoses. The report stated that 59% of HIV infections transmitted to people through heterosexual sexual contact, 30% when injecting drugs.
Thus, according to the who, Russia has become the European leader in terms of HIV infection. Overall in Europe it was revealed nearly 160 thousand new cases of infection – in other words, the inhabitants of the European Union had 30 thousand new cases. Prior to that, head of the Federal scientific-methodological center for the fight and prevention of HIV Vadim Pokrovsky, said in an interview that informally, according to his calculations, there are around 1.3-1.5 million HIV-positive Russians.
Second place for the number of new diagnosed cases of HIV infection among the European countries is Ukraine, followed by Belarus and Moldova. In Russia, according to help of the Federal centre for prevention and fight against AIDS, the highest prevalence of HIV noted in the Sverdlovsk region, and the highest incidence is in the Kemerovo and Irkutsk regions.
